Artistic Statement Andrew Traficante

“The saddest thing in life is wasted talent” is a quote that helped me push myself as an artist. Hello, my name is Andrew Traficante and I am a professional caricaturist pursing to be a Graphic Designer and Media major. I have used art throughout my life to express my unique sense of humor and make others laugh at their own expense. Art came natural to me and it has been my way of getting away from stress. Just the same as throwing a football around, playing videos, or going for a long drive. Political cartooning influenced me. Seeing these wacky drawings as a child made me want to put my sense of style to effect. Art to me, is all about self expression and the more wacky the better because it makes you stand out from other and that is what I am all about.  Pablo Picasso has influenced me because he was not afraid to draw the most bizarre things that would actually make sense only to him. To others, they might consider him to be one of the worst artists in history because his drawing were completely abstract, but that is the beauty within art. I took his drawings and made them into my own but personally, I am better than Pablo Picasso, just because he was born before me doesn't mean he is a better artist than I am. An entertainment company recently hired me last summer and I am currently getting paid for what I love to do, which is draw. I believe if you have a strong passion for something go out and further your knowledge.
To successfully achieve a goal, you have not reached; you must get out of your comfort zone and do something you have not that will get you there. If you know you have talent but do not purse it, you will forever live with guilt not knowing what you could have done with it. I have chosen the Graphic Design field because I have mastered the “hands on” technique with pencil and paper. Technology is furthering and art is mostly going to be done on computer in the "future"so I have chosen to become familiar with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.  Media is definitely a necessity to learning new ways on how to advertise your work as an artist and gain exposure. Even if you don't want to be a known artist and just do it for yourself, it is a new way to test yourself on what other ideas you can pick up. This can be such as drawing your own cartoon and having it animated to an episode or something. Screen printing has also grabbed my attention and I use these programs such to put my designs to life. The thing that is best about art is, there is infinity ways to help yourself grow as an artist whether its hands on drawing, graphic work, or photography. Being open minded plays a substantial role for myself as an artist because learning a variety of techniques in all kinds of the artistic field can only help sharpen my skills and be beneficial for my overall work as an artist.
